They were nice enough and quick but they never vacuumed. I believe there were some other peripheral checkpoints but they never mentioned them. They couldn't get my hood to fully latch. The safety latch worked but the hood wasn't fully shut. I told him that this had happened before and briefly suggested how to remedy the situation. But he just to slam the hood shut a couple more times. I'm 75 years old. I think you just looked at me and figured he could get away with saying something like, "you may have been able to get it shut before but now the mechanism is now totally worn out and will never work again. I didn't argue the point but instead ask him if he had some wire or string to secure the hood from flying up. He pointed to an auto parts store and told me I'd have to go by some wire or zip ties. So I drove home very slowly. When I got home I sprayed a little dw40 on the entire latch mechanism and especially on the hood release cable that attached to the hood release lever. I went back inside the car and worked the hood release lever back and forth a few times. I got back out and went to the front of my SUV and gently shut the hood. It latched properly on the first try. I don't think it took even a minute to fix the problem. I used to own a used car dealership back in Oregon before I retired. I've seen the damage that a hood flying up can cause at just 45 mph. The hood hinges and springs end up getting bent as well as the hood itself. It often times cracks the windshield. But because the driver cannot see it can end up in a head on collision. It wasn't the technicians fault that my hood latch mechanism was sticky. But it was his responsibility to make sure after the service was completed that the hood was shut securly by whatever means necessary. Look, the technician's personality and demeanor represented Jiffy Lube well. I liked the guy and I'll come back. I don't know everything but I do understand liability having run my own corporation. I had Oil Can Henry's (based out of Oregon) and a Redding California, Valvoline distributor partnered with Valvoline Oil court me to open a lube oil filter and car wash franchise. I learned that one of their biggest expenses was liability insurance. Without a doubt, had a worst case scenario happened to me, jiffy lube would have been liable. They would have cited jiffy lube for not training the technician properly. I didn't leave this comment because I am angry or want to throw the technician under the bus. I'm just saying that from a former businessman that gets it, if a potential liability or to take place within my organization, I would appreciate someone telling me about it so I could deal with the issue properly and avoid the possibility of a potentially monstrous lawsuit.
